California Federation Women’s Clubs Grove

The Women’s Clubs Grove is a day use / picnic area. The access road provides a flat and level walk through a beautiful stand of redwoods.  The walk is especially pleasant during winter and spring when the road is closed.  During summer, there is easy access to swimming in the Eel river.

The major attraction of the grove is the Hearthstone, a magnificent four-sided fireplace designed by famed architect Julia Morgan, designer of the Hearst Castle.  The Hearthstone is built of native stone and redwood. It was built in 1933 to commemorate the Federation’s role in saving the park’s old-growth redwoods.

Directions:  drive North from Visitor’s Center approximately 3 miles; watch for the sign on the west side of the road.  If you reach the bridge across highway 101, you’ve gone too far.
