Living Chimney Tree (attraction & grill)

The “Living Chimney Tree” is a 78-foot-tall remnant of a redwood tree that has been hollowed out by fire. This is actually a fairly common occurrence in the redwoods…  the dry central core is destroyed by fire, but the moist outer layers of the tree survive.

The Chimney Tree was hollowed by fire in 1914.  Visitors can enter the tree through a doorway at the base, and look straight up to see the sky above!

The grill that stands adjacent to the Chimney Tree serves grass-fed burgers, fresh-baked pies,  ice cream, shakes, floats, and even gluten-free and vegan options.

Admission to the Chimney Tree is free.
